Stupid camry with the wheel turned the wrong way for a hill

My girlfriend’s parents are in town visiting so I got to use the STi to go pick them up at the airport. First use of the back seats and trunk space. They are heading on a cruise ship out of San Pedro for a week so they had quite a bit of luggage to bring along. The subaru swallowed it all up nicely and fit the three of us comfortably. It was a nice little drive from LAX, to Hermosa beach for lunch, around Palos Verdes, and to drop them off for their stay in San Pedro before the cruise.

Kinja'd!!!

This lovely sign though while going around Palos Verdes actually meant “roads will be bumpy as fuck” which sure was fun. We survived but oh man was that an experience in the STi loaded to the gills lol.

Kinja'd!!!

I didn’t bother taking any photos of the scenery when we stopped along the way because of the aforementioned fog. I have been there before though with my girlfriend when it was sunny and oh boy was that a treat!

Kinja'd!!!

Too lazy to find my own photos, plus this is better anyways

Back seat is now removed again and skis are loaded into the car for my ski trip this weekend. I ended up adjusting my ski case so now it fits without impacting my ability to shift the car. Plus I can still fit a passenger so it’s good enough. We shall see if removed rear seat adds an extra noise to the cabin while driving. I’m not driving to the mountain so no fun subaru snow pics (flying to salt Lake city) but I should be able to get some shots with whatever shitty rental car I end up with!

Lead photo looks shopped. I can tell because the Camry has no dent and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.

Did you stop to see the Korean Friendship Bell? It’s a famous spot used in many movies.

The locals pronounce “San Pedro” wrong, too. Crazy white people.

I should have thrown a rock at the camry to make it more believable. I was also thrown off at that sight. I thought I was dreaming of a world without camry dents.

Saaaan Peeeeedroh. I couldn’t see shit in the fog so we just stopped somewhere but I didn’t know where. I could hear the ocean more than I could see it

That makes no sense you guys got fog and I didn’t. I like fog, it’s always nice and cold.

Have you seen some of the pictures of the mudslides? Holy balls it’s bad. I’m kind of shocked there were no mudslides in Ventura since the fire was in the hills here. But obviously, I’m glad we didn’t get any mudslides.

Well at home in Woodland Hills it was sunny and 80 degrees. Funny how much that varies for such a short distance away. Palos Verdes is not exactly close haha. Fog didn’t roll in until I got to Hermosa beach. Was still clear by the airport.

And yeah I was looking through a sideshow of that stuff. Nuts really. But also annoying that friends and family from back East see that and assume that’s what I’m dealing with every day. Like that is nowhere near me and kind of not possible where I am anyways. Same goes for the fires. Although I’m sure an earthquake some day will effect me. That Northridge quake was not far from here.

Oh haha I thought you were talking about your house.

It seems as if people back east, or anyone who doesn’t live in California thinks there are only two places in this huge state: San Francisco and LA. And maybe San Diego if something goes on there. But everywhere that isn’t actually Los Angeles city, or San Francisco, it’s always “x time north/south of LA/San Francisco/San Diego.” Ventura County is huge yet we’re still “Ventura, an hour north of LA.” Even Santa Barbara which has a fair amount of name recognition is still a “suburb North of LA.”

Shit even for people in California that’s the only way they can place a city or county. It’s much better overseas you can just say you’re from California and you get free drinks.

Haha its crazy how everywhere is just called “LA”. Pretty much anywhere South of San Luis Osbispo, West of Palm Springs, and North of like Oceanside is LA. It kind of simplifies things, culturally it’s pretty much all the same place anyways. But yeah its sure difficult to explain where I actually live to people. Or that the weather can change every couple of miles lol. Back east you drive for 5-6 hours and the weather never changes much.

The other way to describe where you are in California is by how long it takes to get to LA. For people to understand where Ventura is you need to say, “An hour north of LA.”

I don’t tend to socialize with people from or around San Francisco, for many reasons, but I wonder if it’s the same for them.

Something against San Franciscoers? When I visited, it reminded me of NY but with better weather. Food was my favorite part, just many good restaurants

I’m not really a fan of pretentious hipsters, even though I know that probably makes me sound like a pretentious hipster.

I would like to go up to San Francisco and check it out, but I’ve just never had any reason to go up there.

It’s nice to visit but I doubt I could live there. They take the crap I dislike about California to the extreme. I’d consider myself a bleeding heart liberal but man California makes me feel otherwise sometimes lol. It’s also just too city like for me. The suburban sprawl of LA is more my speed. But it was really convenient spending a week in San Fran and not needing or wanting a car. Bus and walking got me everywhere easily. I liked it enough that I’d go back again, I can’t say that about most places. Usually I just want to see somewhere once, like reading a book or seeing a movie once. But that place was cool in its own way

I’m super liberal, but the democrats out of San Francisco drive me nuts. I like Democrats like Brown, who are much more pragmatic and realistic. San Francisco democrats, and those like them, are so idealistic it makes me sad. They’re the definition of bleeding heart liberals.

I would really enjoy having decent public transit, though. But I’m not going to spend more than I could ever make just on rent.

Right in my neck of the woods. The landslide area in PV is always a little dicey in the 348 but I manage just fine. My favorite short drive is to lap the peninsula. PV West > PV South > PV East (the best) > PV North then back to Redondo. About 35 miles round trip from my house, I believe.

Yup, I did that exact drive the last time I went there. It was incredibly foggy and there was construction going on so I didnt want to stick around longer. Still a cool place though! The landslide area seems wild, Ive never seen anything like that in such a populated area.

I think they pave that section every month. It seems that way at least. PV is a cool area with a few nice trails and a ton of cool cars. The cars and coffee (1st Sat of the month) is always neat.
